KUCCPS to Open Placement Portal in March

by KenyaPolls

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS)
has revealed that the university and college placement portal will be
launched in March.

During an interview with Inooro TV on Monday, January 26, KUCCPS CEO
Agnes Wahome stated that this initiative is crucial for preparing students
for their transition to higher education, which usually commences in
September.

Once active, the portal will offer guidance materials to assist applicants
in navigating the system and making well-informed choices about
universities and colleges.

According to Wahome, the placement service is currently evaluating the
capacities declared by universities and colleges to ensure student
placements align with institutional capacities.

“A significant amount of work is underway on both the institutional and
our end to guarantee that when the placements are announced, there will
be no confusion,” Wahome explained.

The service has established dedicated desks at Huduma centers nationwide
with trained staff to ensure that every student, particularly those in
regions with limited internet access, has equal opportunity to apply,
Wahome noted.

The CEO assured that all students who took the 2025 Kenya Certificate of
Secondary Education (KCSE) will be able to select their preferred courses
and institutions based on their academic performance through the
placement platform. “In our system, there is no concept of failure; we
accommodate everyone, including those who received an E grade.”

“My team is present at Huduma centers across the country as the
placement service has a desk in each facility. Where specific desks are
not available, cyber cafes are accessible, and we have trained all
personnel operating these facilities on system usage,” Wahome said.

The placement service plans to utilize this week’s career guidance
conference to provide direction to students and parents regarding
higher education and career paths.

The event, taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre,
will bring together students, parents, universities, colleges, and
other education sector stakeholders.

The placement service highlighted that the exhibition will host over 100
institutions, including public and private universities, TVET colleges,
professional organizations, and corporate partners.

The Ministry of Education reported that 270,715 candidates who sat the
2025 examination achieved a mean grade of C+ or higher, qualifying them
for direct university admission.

507,131 candidates attained grade C- and above, while those with
D+ and above totaled 634,082.
