Konza Technopolis has broken ground on a Ksh7 billion smart water treatment plant, the first in Kenya to use AI for leak detection and quality monitoring. The 50,000m³/day facility, funded by AfDB and the Nairobi City Water Utility, will serve 200,000 residents and tech firms by 2026. It recycles 40% of wastewater for landscaping and cooling. The project supports Konza’s climate-resilient urban design and reduces pressure on Nairobi’s water system. Sensors will feed data to a central dashboard for predictive maintenance. The plant is a model for future satellite cities under Vision 2030.
