Kitui budget review shows rise in county revenue allocation (2023/24)

by KenyaPolls

The Kitui County Government has allocated Sh100 million for the construction of eight new police stations in volatile areas along its borders with Tana River, Garissa, and Makueni counties. Governor Julius Malombe said the investment aims to curb persistent insecurity, including cattle rustling, banditry, and cross-border crime. These stations, in wards like Ngomeni and Ikutha, will reduce response time from hours to minutes and provide a permanent security presence, the Governor stated during the groundbreaking at Kanyangi. The stations will include staff housing, holding cells, and offices. The county is providing the land and infrastructure, while the National Police Service will staff and equip the facilities. Local leaders welcomed the move, citing years of vulnerability due to the vast distances to existing police posts. The project is slated for completion within 12 months.
