Kisumu Village Grapples with Mystery of Thugs Who Attack, Kill, but Do Not Steal
Residents of a village in Kisumu County are living in a state of bewildered terror, gripped by a chilling and inexplicable trend: gangs of thugs who launch brutal attacks, severely beating and even killing their victims, but without stealing any of their possessions. This pattern of seemingly motiveless violence has left the community searching for answers and fearing that they are being targeted for reasons beyond robbery.
According to numerous victims and their families, the assailants, often armed with crude weapons, descend upon homesteads with a specific intent to inflict pain. They assault their targets with extreme violence, breaking limbs and in some cases killing them, yet they consistently leave behind money, mobile phones, and other valuables. They beat my son until he was unconscious. They did not take his phone or the money in his pocket. They just left him for dead. We don’t know why, shared a distraught parent from the area, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal.
The bizarre nature of the attacks has complicated police investigations and fueled anxiety among villagers. Local leaders and security officials are struggling to determine a motive, with theories ranging from organized intimidation and hired assaults to the settling of scores under the guise of random crime. The absence of a clear material motive like theft has made it difficult for residents to predict or protect themselves from the violence.
This unsettling phenomenon has exacerbated the climate of fear in the region, challenging conventional security responses. With no property to safeguard as a deterrent, residents feel utterly vulnerable. The situation has prompted urgent calls for a deeper, intelligence-driven investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to unravel the mystery behind the attacks and identify the individuals orchestrating what many fear is a campaign of terror aimed at the community itself.
