Meru County is entering a new chapter of leadership as Isaac Mutuma prepares to take office as governor, following the High Court’s upholding of the impeachment of former Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has voiced strong support for Mutuma, likening his leadership to the biblical Nehemiah who rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls, and calling on county leaders to unite behind the new administration to restore Meru’s prosperity.
The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for Monday at Mwendantu Grounds in Meru Town, has been finalized by the Assumption of Office Committee, with Meru County Secretary Dr. Kiambi Atheru confirming all preparations are complete. County Commissioner Jacob Ouma assured residents that security measures are in place and encouraged large attendance to witness the historic transition. Following the ceremony, Governor Mutuma is expected to address county staff at the Meru County Government offices, outlining his development agenda.
The transition comes after Justice Bahati Mwamuye dismissed a petition challenging Mwangaza’s removal, ruling that the impeachment process had adhered to legal procedures and that Mwangaza had been given sufficient opportunity to respond to allegations. As Mutuma assumes office, expectations are high for a unified leadership team capable of driving development, economic growth, and improved service delivery in Meru County, with community leaders and residents urged to support the new administration.
