Jubilee Party Deputy Chairperson Jeremiah Kioni has revealed that his party will commence independent meetings alongside those of the United Opposition coalition.
Speaking to journalists in Nyahururu town, Kioni expressed significant worries that coalition gatherings typically benefit the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which he claims prevents other parties from effectively presenting their agenda to the public and promoting Jubilee.
During his address, Kioni highlighted that DCP members frequently control proceedings due to the influence of their leader Rigathi Gachagua, who consistently serves as the master of ceremonies at events.
‘The person who controls the microphone at those meetings is Gachagua, he naturally favors DCP members, the rest of us are not given opportunities,’ stated Kioni.
He noted that other parties, including Jubilee, are often excluded from these assemblies. Despite suggesting potential tension within the coalition, Kioni dismissed reports of any division.
‘We are pleased with how Gachagua is handling Ruto but our participation in the coalition doesn’t prevent us from promoting our candidates to the people. As Jubilee, we recognize Mt. Kenya as our territory and will do everything within our power to strengthen our presence there,’ added Kioni.
Indicating a possible division in the United Opposition, Kioni denied allegations of fallout, describing the move as an internal party strategy that enhances the coalition’s support foundation.
He further explained that while Jubilee remains an essential component of the opposition wing, the party must actively promote its manifesto while engaging directly with constituents.
Kioni emphasized that with the agreement against zoning, Mt. Kenya region continues to be Jubilee’s stronghold.
According to Kioni, the party seeks to establish its dominance in Mt. Kenya by mobilizing resources to ensure the region remains firmly in Jubilee’s hands. Clarifying the objective of this initiative, Kioni stated the intention is not to weaken the coalition but to guarantee fairness and inclusion for all member parties in policy formulation and addressing community development issues.
He reiterated their backing and appreciation for Gachagua’s approach with President Ruto while stressing that coalition membership doesn’t restrict any party from advocating for their own candidates or platforms.
