Speaking before Meru’s County Security and Intelligence Committee, Kindiki emphasized the need to enforce the law impartially, dismantle politically affiliated criminal networks and prosecute those behind the escalating violence. He also directed security forces to intensify efforts to halt cattle rustling in the northern parts of Meru, calling for arrest and prosecution of not just the foot soldiers, but also the financiers and organisers of livestock raids. Capital FM Kindiki raised alarm over the rise in alcohol and drug abuse in the county, urging the adoption of a government 25-point action plan to curb its spread—linking substance abuse with the growth of crime syndicates. Capital FM During a separate consultative meeting with Meru’s elected leaders, he promised his administration would decisively stamp out banditry, saying that no matter how entrenched the problem appears, the government would not relent. The CS’s strong messages come amid rising calls for transparency and accountability, particularly after reports of collusion between certain security personnel and criminal actors. Kindiki warned officers who aid or turn a blind eye to criminality that they will be fired and prosecuted, rather than quietly reassigned. Capital FM By pressing for the radical dismantling of criminal networks, he hopes to rebuild trust between communities and law enforcement — something long eroded in rustling hotspots.
Looking ahead, Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Operation Maliza Uhalifu, the countrywide effort to eliminate banditry. Capital FM He said the plan will remain in force until criminal masterminds are neutralised and rustling ceases. With this renewed push, Kindiki is betting on a combination of community cooperation, inter-agency coordination, and firm prosecutions to bring lasting security to Meru.
