Kilifi County Launches Digital Project Dashboard to Boost Transparency

Kilifi County government has taken a major step toward enhancing transparency and citizen participation with the development of a County Project Dashboard, a new digital platform that will allow residents to monitor county projects in real time. The initiative, created in partnership with Open Institute and Maono Space, will provide comprehensive information on all county projects, including budgets, timelines, and GPS locations. County officials from all departments have been nominated to oversee the compilation of project data, ensuring that the platform reflects accurate and up-to-date information.

The dashboard aims to tackle longstanding concerns over accountability and inefficiency in local governance by making development projects publicly accessible. During a key session to review the platform, Madam Anita Mashaka, Director of the Delivery Unit in the Office of the Governor, and Mr. Jonathan Mativo, the county spokesperson, engaged with departmental officers to finalize project details and ensure smooth implementation. Officials highlighted that the dashboard would not only empower residents with information but also help the county administration track progress and identify bottlenecks in real time.

Reactions from stakeholders have been largely positive, with civic groups and local residents welcoming the move as a significant step toward participatory governance. Advocates argue that the dashboard will increase accountability by allowing the public to verify whether projects are completed on time and within allocated budgets. County officials also emphasized that the initiative will strengthen public trust and reduce the risk of corruption, as all project information will be publicly visible.

Looking ahead, Kilifi County plans to roll out the platform in the coming months, with ongoing updates to ensure all projects are captured accurately. Officials noted that continuous feedback from the public will be critical in improving the system, with the ultimate goal of creating a culture of transparency and citizen engagement across all levels of county governance.
