Kihika Endorses Gikaria for Nakuru Senate Bid in 2027

by KenyaPolls

In a bold move ahead of the 2027 general elections, Susan Kihika, Governor of Nakuru County, has publicly backed the senatorial ambitions of David Gikaria, the Member of Parliament for Nakuru Town East. The endorsement took place during a political gathering in Nakuru Town on August 16, 2025, where Kihika declared her full support for Gikaria to challenge the incumbent senator.
Kihika cited Gikaria’s strong track record—having won three consecutive terms as MP—as evidence of his readiness for the Senate role. She urged supporters of Nakuru East to release him to campaign countywide, stating that his base was already secure and that he should now focus on the wider electorate.
The endorsement also comes amid a heightened rivalry between Kihika and the current senator, Tabitha Karanja, who has openly criticised the governor’s leadership.
The effects of this development are already rippling through Nakuru’s political scene. MP Samuel Arama of Nakuru West has also thrown his weight behind Gikaria, lauding his experience in local government and three terms in parliament as solid credentials for the Senate seat.
For Kihika, the endorsement also serves a dual purpose: she reminded the gathering that she is seeking a second term as governor, asking for the same backing she promises Gikaria.
Looking ahead, the endorsement sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown in Nakuru County’s political contest in 2027. With Kihika’s backing bolstering Gikaria’s campaign, the challenge to Senator Karanja could reshape local alliances and voting dynamics. Observers will be watching closely whether this alignment of support translates into a coordinated campaign structure, and how the competing camps will mobilise their bases over the next two years.
