Construction of the Gikambura Modern Market in Kiambu County, which began in May 2024, is poised to revolutionize local trade and uplift livelihoods in the agriculturally rich region. Once completed, the facility will host over 340 traders, providing a safe, well-organized, and dignified space for business. The market is designed to accommodate a variety of commercial activities while enhancing convenience for both traders and customers.
The ultra-modern facility will feature 100 shops, 208 stalls, a social hall, meeting rooms, offices, an ICT hub, a food court with a kitchen, barbershop and salon, washrooms, a trash cubicle, a crèche, enforcement and power rooms, a cold room, and a butchery. In addition, it will offer ample parking and a children’s play area, creating a family-friendly environment. The project has already employed 45 local residents, providing much-needed job opportunities and skills development for the surrounding community.
County officials and local leaders view the market as a critical hub for agro-based trade and value addition in a region known for its crop farming and dairy production. Residents are optimistic that the market will boost local incomes, streamline trade operations, and attract further investment to Kiambu. With completion on the horizon, Gikambura Modern Market is set to become a cornerstone of economic growth and community development in the county.
