Kiambu County Assembly has unanimously passed the FY 2025/2026 budget estimates and the related Appropriations Bill, setting a KSh 23.8 billion financial framework for the County Government’s operations. The move provides legislative approval for the county’s revenue and expenditure plans, supporting both service continuity and development initiatives across key sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment programs.

According to Hon. Nduta Muongi, Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, 66.8 percent of the budget will cover recurrent expenditure, including salaries, healthcare provision, and administrative operations, while the remaining 33.2 percent will be allocated to development projects such as roads, housing, and empowerment initiatives. The budget will be financed through KSh 12.88 billion from the national government’s equitable share, additional allocations totaling KSh 2.42 billion, and a projected KSh 7.98 billion from Own Source Revenue (OSR), reflecting the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance financial independence and revenue collection.

During the approval process, Assembly members emphasized the importance of ensuring that the budget is fully implemented and balanced across departments. Members highlighted concerns over project delays and slow absorption rates in some departments, urging the Executive to fast-track implementation and provide adequate funds for County Assembly projects. Hon. Muongi affirmed that the enactment of the Appropriations Act gives the Executive authority to operationalize the budget while the Assembly continues its oversight role, ensuring that funds deliver tangible benefits to the people of Kiambu.
