Kenya’s TVET Graduates Fill Critical Skills Gaps in Construction and Manufacturing

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s TVET colleges graduated 180,000 youth in 2023 with industry-certified skills in construction, manufacturing, and renewable energy installation. The National TVET Authority reports that 82% secured jobs or started businesses within six months, with employers like Bamburi, Devki Steel, and Kenya Power citing high readiness. The apprenticeship model—6 months training + 6 months workplace attachment—is now mandatory for all programs. The 2024/25 budget allocates Ksh25 billion to upgrade workshops and trainer capacity. The initiative is central to Kenya’s industrialization drive and aims to produce 1 million skilled workers annually by 2027 under the Bottom-Up Agenda.
