Kenya’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions graduated 150,000 youth in 2023 through an industry-aligned apprenticeship model. Students spent 6 months in training and 6 months in paid workplace attachments with companies like Bamburi, Kenya Airways, and Kenya Power. The National TVET Authority reports a 78% job placement rate, with employers praising graduates’ readiness. The 2024/25 budget allocates Ksh20 billion to expand labs and trainer capacity. The program is central to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda’s goal of closing the skills gap and reducing youth unemployment.
