Kenya’s National Orienteering Team Wins Africa Champs in Aberdare Forest

by KenyaPolls

Kenya hosted and won the 2025 Africa Orienteering Championships in Aberdare National Park on April 12, 2025—using GPS-free map-and-compass navigation across 7km of forest, rivers, and ridges. The men’s and women’s teams swept gold, led by Faith Chemutai (22, Uasin Gishu), who finished in 48:22. Orienteering isn’t getting lost—it’s finding yourself in nature, she said. The Kenya Orienteering Association, recognized in 2024, now has 28 clubs. KWS supported eco-routing to protect wildlife corridors. The win qualifies Kenya for the 2026 World Champs in Scotland. Plans for a school league in 2026 are underway.
