Kenya’s National Housing Corporation (NHC) sold 10,000 affordable housing units in 2023, the highest in a decade, under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. Projects in Ruiru, Athi River, Syokimau, and Kisumu accounted for 80% of deliveries. Units priced between Ksh800,000 and Ksh3 million were financed through partnerships with HF Group, housing cooperatives, and the Ksh30 billion Housing Fund. Over 70% of buyers were first-time homeowners, with women comprising 52%. The NHC aims to deliver 50,000 units by 2027, supported by expedited approvals and public-private partnerships. Slum upgrading remains a parallel priority.
