Kenya’s National Climbing Team Wins Bronze at African Championships

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s sport climbing team claimed bronze in the men’s bouldering event at the 2025 African Sport Climbing Championships in Tunis on May 15, 2025—marking the nation’s first continental medal in the Olympic discipline. Lead climber Daniel Muriuki (24, Nairobi) topped 3 of 4 problems, including a dyno move nicknamed The Rift. The team trained at Kenya’s only IFSC-approved wall—Summit Climbing Gym in Westlands, opened in 2024. Gravity is the same everywhere—but our grit is Kenyan, said Muriuki. The Sports Ministry allocated KSh 18 million to build outdoor climbing walls in Hell’s Gate and Ngong Hills. Kenya now targets Olympic qualification for LA 2028.
