Kenya’s National Blind Cricket Team Reaches Semi-Finals at World Cup in India

by KenyaPolls

Defying odds, Kenya’s Blind Cricket Team reached the semi-finals of the 2025 IBSA Blind Cricket World Cup in Hyderabad on February 22, 2025—their best-ever global performance. Using a ball with ball bearings and verbal fielding cues, the team stunned Pakistan in the quarters before falling to eventual champions India. Opener David Omondi scored 148* (off 152) in the group stage—the highest individual score of the tournament. Their run, funded by a KSh 28 million crowdfunding campaign (#SeeThemPlay), led to the gazettement of blind cricket under the Sports Act. Kenya Society for the Blind opened 6 audio-training centers. Cricinfo featured their story in Unseen Warriors, and BCCI invited Kenya for a bilateral series in 2026.
