Kenya’s Africa Centre for Geothermal Development in Menengai has graduated its first cohort of 120 engineers from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. The Ksh2 billion institute, funded by the World Bank and GDC, offers diplomas in reservoir engineering, drilling, and plant maintenance. Graduates are already deployed in national utilities and private firms across the region. The center aims to train 1,000 specialists annually, addressing a critical shortage in Africa’s geothermal sector. With 950MW operational and 1,500MW planned, Kenya is positioning itself as the continent’s clean energy knowledge hub.
