Kenya’s First National Sports Interpreters for ASL-Lite Launched

by KenyaPolls

The Kenya Society for the Deaf and NOCK launched ASL-Lite Interpreters on May 20, 2025—trained in simplified American Sign Language for international para-sport events, enabling seamless communication at global competitions. When Kenya competes, no athlete is left in silence, said interpreter Grace Akinyi. 18 interpreters were certified, deployed at the Paris 2024 Paralympics qualifiers. FIFA awarded Kenya a grant to train 30 more by 2026.
