Kenya’s First Motorsport Safety Training Centre Opens in Naivasha

Kenya’s motorsport scene took a giant leap forward with the inauguration of the East Africa Motorsport Safety & Training Institute (EAMSTI) in Naivasha on July 18, 2025. Built on a 50-acre site with a 2.1km FIA-Grade 4 circuit, skid pad, and emergency response simulation lab, the center trains marshals, drivers, medics, and officials. Funded by Motorsport Kenya, TotalEnergies, and the FIA Solidarity Fund, it addresses long-standing safety gaps after the 2024 Safari Rally medical review. No more ad-hoc heroics—we’re building professionalism, said CEO Ian Duncan (1994 Safari Rally winner). The first cohort of 60 trainees included 40% women. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised it as a continental benchmark. Plans include hosting the 2026 Africa Rally Championship finale.
