Kenya’s First Green Hydrogen Pilot Launches in Naivasha

by KenyaPolls

Kenya has launched East Africa’s first green hydrogen pilot plant in Naivasha, producing clean fuel for industrial use. The 5MW project, led by Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) and Siemens, uses geothermal-powered electrolysis. Output will supply Bamburi Cement’s decarbonization pilot and test fuel cells for buses. The initiative aligns with Kenya’s 2050 net-zero goal. The EU and Germany are co-funding feasibility studies for large-scale export. Green hydrogen could position Kenya as a clean energy exporter, creating high-tech jobs and attracting green FDI.
