Kenya’s First Blind Football League Kicks Off with 6 Teams Nationwide

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s inaugural National Blind Football League tipped off on February 1, 2025, with six teams (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Meru) competing under IBSA rules. Matches use a ball with bells, tactile pitch markings, and sighted guides behind goals. Nairobi’s *Sighted Hope FC* won the first derby 4–2 over Mombasa, with striker David Ochieng netting a hat-trick. Funded by KSh 32 million from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), the league ensures contracts, transport, and guide support. Football gave me back my identity—not my eyesight, said Ochieng, blind since age 12. The KNBSB integrated blind football into school talent IDs. CAF invited Kenya to showcase the sport at AFCON 2027.
