Kenya’s Drone Racing League Takes Flight with National Championship in Eldoret

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s tech-sport fusion soared as the inaugural Kenya Drone Racing League (KDRL) National Championship took place in Eldoret on October 4, 2025. Organized by the Kenya Aero Sports Federation and iHub, the event featured 48 FPV (first-person view) pilots racing custom-built drones through 3D obstacle courses at the Eldoret Aviation Training Centre. Winner: 19-year-old engineer student Faith Njoroge (UoN), flying * Swift Falcon * at 127 km/h. The league—backed by Kenya Airways and Safaricom’s *Digifarm*—targets youth in STEM: each team must include one girl and one person with disability. KDRL now has 14 county chapters. CAA fast-tracked licensing for recreational drone sports, and NASA Kenya invited winners to a space-tech mentorship camp.
