The Ministry of Lands has fully digitized land lease processing for public and community land, reducing approval time from 6 months to 48 hours. The system, live since February 2024, uses GIS mapping, e-signatures, and mobile payments. Over 12,000 leases for agriculture, tourism, and housing have been issued, mostly in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs). The platform curbs fraud and middlemen, with real-time tracking via SMS. Counties like Laikipia and Tana River report 70% increase in lease revenue. The system will integrate with the National Land Information System by 2025, completing Kenya’s land governance digital transformation.
