Kenya’s Unified Electronic Health Records (UEHR) system now links 10 million patients to the Social Health Insurance Fund, enabling instant access to care across 1,500 public and private facilities. The platform, managed by the Ministry of Health, digitizes medical histories, prescriptions, and lab results. Integration with NHIF allows real-time billing and coverage checks. Early results show 35% reduction in out-of-pocket expenses and 25% fewer duplicate tests. The system is expanding to all counties in 2024. WHO calls it a blueprint for universal health coverage in Africa, supporting Kenya’s goal of equitable, efficient, and patient-centered care by 2030.
