All 47 counties have fully implemented the National Digital Business Permit System, allowing entrepreneurs to register and renew licenses in under 24 hours via e-Citizen. The platform, launched in February 2024, integrates with KRA, NSSF, and county revenue systems. Over 500,000 businesses have renewed permits digitally, with 80% citing ease of use. Micro-businesses pay flat annual fees of Ksh1,000. The system has increased county revenue by 22% and reduced bribery at licensing offices. The next phase includes automated compliance alerts and integration with the Hustler Fund for credit scoring. Kenya aims to be among Africa’s top 10 easiest places to do business by 2027.
