Kenya’s Creative Economy Exports Hit $200 Million in 2023

Kenya’s creative sector—film, music, fashion, and digital content—earned $200 million in exports in 2023, up from $120 million in 2021. Hits like Kati Kati and Rafiki drove film sales, while music streaming revenue grew by 40% on Spotify and Boomplay. Fashion exports of Made in Kenya apparel and accessories rose by 35% to West Africa and Europe. The Kenya Film Commission reported 150 local productions, and the Creatives Fund supported 500 startups. With AfCFTA, Kenya aims to double creative exports to $400 million by 2026, positioning itself as East Africa’s content and design hub.
