Kenya’s Cotton Revival Program Reaches 100,000 Farmers in Western Region

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s Cotton Revival Program has enrolled 100,000 farmers across Bungoma, Busia, and Homa Bay, up from 25,000 in 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture provides subsidized seeds, ginneries, and guaranteed offtake at Ksh120/kg. Rivatex Kenya in Eldoret is now processing local cotton into fabric for school uniforms and hospital linen. The government’s ban on mitumba imports has boosted demand for locally made textiles. New investments include a Ksh3 billion spinning mill in Webuye. With AfCFTA, Kenya aims to export cotton fabric to Uganda and Tanzania duty-free, creating 200,000 jobs by 2027.
