Over 50,000 Kenyan coffee farmers are now using blockchain technology to verify the origin and quality of their beans, thanks to a partnership between the Coffee Board and tech firm BanQu. The system tracks cherries from farm to export, ensuring fair pricing and premium access to EU and U.S. markets. Auction prices for traceable lots are 20% higher. The pilot in Nyeri and Kirinyaga has reduced fraud and empowered women growers. The platform will expand to 200,000 farmers by 2025, supporting Kenya’s coffee revival strategy.
