by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s avocado exports to India doubled to Ksh6.4 billion in 2023 after New Delhi granted pest-free certification and zero-duty access under the India–EAC Preferential Trade Agreement. The Horticultural Crops Directorate reports weekly air cargo flights from Nairobi to Mumbai and Delhi, carrying over 20,000 tonnes of fruit. Indian retailers like Reliance Fresh and BigBasket now stock Kenyan Hass avocados. Over 100,000 farmers in Central Kenya benefit from the premium market. The two countries are negotiating mutual recognition of organic standards to boost value-added exports like avocado oil by 2025.
