Kenya will host the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol negotiations in Nairobi this August 2024. The Ministry of Trade said the talks aim to harmonize e-commerce rules, data flows, and digital ID recognition across 54 nations. Kenya’s experience with M-Pesa, eCitizen, and digital land records positions it as a credible convener. Outcomes could unlock $70 billion in digital trade by 2030. KEPSA and fintechs like Cellulant are providing private sector input. The event underscores Kenya’s ambition to lead Africa’s digital integration agenda.
