Seven Police Officers Injured in Mandera IED Blast
Mandera, Kenya – July 9, 2025: Seven police officers sustained serious injuries after their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along Gadudia-Laga Road in Mandera East. The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on July 8, as the officers were traveling from Bambo to Mandera town. Authorities say the vehicle was severely damaged, but the officers were quickly evacuated to a local hospital for medical attention.
The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, which lies close to the porous Kenya-Somalia border—a frequent route for Al-Shabaab militants. Multi-agency security teams have been dispatched to pursue the perpetrators. National Police Service spokesman Michael Muchiri said the authorities are intensifying efforts to curb persistent militant attacks that have significantly affected local development and community safety.
Meanwhile, in nearby Wajir County, Senior Chief Adow Ali and his cousin Noor Gathuf were shot dead at their homes in what police believe was a targeted attack linked to a family dispute. The assailants reportedly hurled a grenade into Chief Ali’s residence before dragging him outside and shooting him. Local authorities cordoned off the area and launched investigations. The regional governor’s office expressed condolences to the families and assured the public that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
