Kenya is preparing for the three-day visit of Mr Christopher Landau, the United States Deputy Secretary of State, beginning this Wednesday.
The trip aims to enhance and expand Kenya-U.S. strategic partnerships, continuing from the progress made during President William Samoei Ruto’s recent official visit to Washington, D.C., where he held talks with President Donald Trump.
During the Washington visit, the Washington Accord was signed, a significant pact where the leaders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo agreed to end hostilities in pursuit of sustainable peace in Eastern DRC.
While in Washington, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio formalized the Kenya-U.S. Strategic Health Cooperation Framework.
This pact will allocate KShs. 208 billion (USD 1.6 billion) to Kenya’s health sector across the coming five years, strengthening improvements achieved over the previous twenty years.
This achievement was immediately succeeded by the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which had concluded in September 2025, creating fresh prospects for commerce and investment between Kenya and the United States.
Mr Landau’s discussions will concentrate on regional peace and security, the Bilateral Strategic Dialogue, and teamwork regarding the Haiti Gang Suppression Force.
Prior to the visit, Mudavadi confirmed Kenya’s dedication to fortifying connections with the United States, stating the nation is keen to discover new paths for collaboration.
He conveyed gratitude for America’s initiatives to expand the bilateral relationship, emphasizing crucial domains including economic prosperity, commerce and investment, peace and security, democracy, governance, civilian security, multilateral and regional matters, and health collaboration.
The visit highlights the increasing significance of Kenya-U.S. ties and indicates a mutual resolve to promote shared interests in governance, security, and advancement.
It is projected to further establish Kenya’s standing as a regional strategic ally while introducing fresh possibilities for cooperation advantageous to both countries.
