Kenya’s National Police Service (NPS) has guaranteed safety for all citizens, residents, and tourists as the nation approaches the Easter holidays, which align with school closures and the current rainy season.
Through a public announcement, NPS recognized that this time will feature heightened travel, social events, and tourism activities, creating distinctive security and safety concerns.
The service has implemented a robust plan to uphold law and order throughout this period.
Regarding road safety, the NPS has enhanced enforcement efforts in cooperation with various governmental departments.
They have called on pedestrians, motorcycle taxi operators, and public transport drivers to exercise maximum vigilance to reduce road accidents and injuries.
“We call upon pedestrians, boda boda riders and public service vehicle operators to exercise extreme caution to help prevent road fatalities and injuries. Strict compliance with traffic laws, rules, and safety measures is crucial. This includes respecting speed limits, using proper crossing points, wearing protective equipment like helmets and reflective attire, and avoiding dangerous practices such as driving while impaired, distracted driving, and overloading,” stated the announcement.
The police service also recommended that drivers perform regular vehicle maintenance to lower the chances of accidents caused by mechanical issues.
Moreover, additional officers and resources have been deployed to bolster police visibility, enhance patrol frequency, and increase monitoring in public spaces such as shopping centers, religious venues, markets, transport hubs, and essential infrastructure.
