Kenya Launches National Athlete Career Transition Program

by KenyaPolls

The Ministry of Sports and TVET Authority launched the Second Wind Program on September 5, 2025—helping retiring athletes transition into coaching, trades, agribusiness, or entrepreneurship. The 12-month program includes stipends, mentorship, and accredited certifications (e.g., plumbing, solar tech, sports management). 120 athletes enrolled in Phase 1, including ex-international boxer David Anyim (now a certified electrician). Your finish line is someone else’s starting block—but yours can be a new field, said CS Wafula. Equity Bank provides startup loans, and Safaricom offers digital marketing training. Early success: 3 graduates opened fitness gyms in Mombasa, Eldoret, and Kakamega.
