Kenya has unveiled its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2024–2028, aiming to deploy ethical AI in healthcare, agriculture, and public service delivery. Developed by the Ministry of ICT with input from Strathmore University and Microsoft, the strategy prioritizes AI for crop disease prediction, medical diagnostics, and chatbot-driven citizen services. A Ksh2 billion AI Innovation Fund will support local startups. The government will establish an AI ethics board and require public algorithms to undergo bias audits. Pilots are already running in Kiambu (health) and Nakuru (agriculture). Kenya joins South Africa and Rwanda as Africa’s AI frontrunners. The World Bank pledged $50 million in technical support, calling the move critical for leapfrogging digital governance.
