Kenya Launches Drone Corridor for Medical Deliveries in Kakamega

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s first regulated drone corridor for medical logistics is operational in Kakamega County, delivering blood, vaccines, and antivenom to remote health centers. The project, led by the Ministry of Health and U.S.-based Zipline, uses autonomous drones that fly 80km round-trip in 30 minutes. Since its January 2024 launch, it has completed 2,000 deliveries, cutting maternal mortality in pilot areas by 25%. The corridor is funded by Gates Foundation and USAID. Plans to expand to 10 counties by 2025 are underway. Kenya is the third African country after Rwanda and Ghana to deploy national drone delivery for health.
