Marking a new frontier in competitive sports, Kenya hosted the first East Africa Esports Championship at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) from November 15–20, 2025. Over 1,200 gamers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia competed in *FIFA 25*, *Valorant*, and *Mobile Legends*. Team Nairobi Nexus won the FIFA tournament, with captain Dennis Tekno Omondi earning MVP honors. The event, backed by the Ministry of ICT and Safaricom, included workshops on digital careers and mental wellness. Sports CS Ababu Namwamba announced esports’ formal recognition under the Sports Act, with plans for a national federation and inclusion in the 2027 African Games.
