Kenya has further solidified its standing as a center for golf development after hosting the successful All-Africa Junior Team Championship at Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club.

The three-day competition featured top junior golfers from across the continent, showcasing exceptional play and collective efforts, while demonstrating the improving quality of golf in Africa.

The championship also emphasized the importance of sustained collaborations in fostering talent, with NCBA Group continuing to back junior golf initiatives through its partnership with the Junior Golf Foundation.

At the event’s conclusion, Chris Kinuthia, Chairman of the Kenya Golf Union, commended both the organization and the wider significance of hosting the championship.

“It has been an extremely positive experience. We welcomed the entire African continent to Kenya, and as this is Africa’s largest junior golf event, it places us under global scrutiny. The response from participating nations has been overwhelmingly positive, which speaks volumes for our country as a whole,” he stated.

“This tournament demonstrates that Kenya is not only a golfing leader, but also a sporting leader.”

Kinuthia also acknowledged the vital role of partners in advancing the sport and enhancing junior performance.

“Our partners have been instrumental, particularly NCBA, who have supported the junior golfers since the beginning. The quality of competition displayed in this tournament reflects that level of backing,” he added.

The event illustrated Kenya’s consistent progress in junior golf, fueled by structured programs and greater opportunities for competitive play.

According to Vincent Mukiri, the championship represented a significant achievement for the sport.

“The tournament has been dynamic and thrilling for organizers, young players, and their families. This ranks among the premier junior events we’ve hosted, presenting numerous future opportunities,” he said.

Mukiri observed that Kenya’s impressive performance, including a second-place team result, demonstrated the country’s expanding pool of junior golf talent.

“While our goal was first place, we’re satisfied with second position. As we develop junior golf further, we depend on partnerships that enable us to engage more young athletes,” he explained.

He further elaborated on the benefits of long-term sponsorship, noting that consistent support has dramatically increased participation.

“When we began, we had approximately 3,000 junior players, and now we serve between 5,000 to 6,000. This growth directly stems from reliable support, allowing us to operate on a significantly larger scale.”

For participants, the championship provided valuable experience and a chance to compete against Africa’s finest. Kenya’s Mwathi Gicheru highlighted the importance of such opportunities.

“Competing at this level is a tremendous honor. I’m proud of our team’s performance. The more exposure we gain, the more we improve,” he said.

South Africa’s Andries Van Der Vyver, one of the event’s most successful players, shared his thoughts on his victory.

“I didn’t start strongly, but I managed to finish well. Playing against some of Africa’s best golfers was a great privilege, and emerging as champion is truly rewarding,” he said.

The successful hosting of the championship not only affirmed Kenya’s capability to organize top-tier junior tournaments but also showcased the strength of its development frameworkwhere structured competition, ongoing investment, and robust partnerships continue to shape the sport’s future.
