Kenya and the United Kingdom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Trade to enhance cooperation in fintech, AI, and cybersecurity. Announced in March 2024 during President Ruto’s London visit, the MoU paves the way for mutual recognition of digital IDs, data protection standards, and startup market access. Kenyan firms like Cellulant and Tala will gain easier entry into UK markets. The UK will support Konza Technopolis as a digital export hub. Bilateral digital trade, valued at $300 million in 2023, is expected to double by 2027. The deal complements the ongoing UK-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations.
