Kenya Airways Cargo Fleet Expands with Two New Boeing 737 Freighters

by KenyaPolls

Kenya Airways has added two Boeing 737-800 converted freighters to its SkyCargo division, boosting capacity by 40%. The aircraft, acquired through a sale-leaseback deal, will serve Nairobi–Dubai–Mumbai and Nairobi–Lagos routes. CEO Allan Kilavuka said the expansion responds to rising demand for e-commerce parcels, fresh produce, and pharmaceuticals. SkyCargo’s revenue grew by 28% in 2023, outpacing passenger recovery. The new planes feature temperature-controlled holds for perishables. The airline aims to capture 15% of East Africa’s air cargo market by 2026, up from 9% today. The move supports Kenya’s ambition to become a regional logistics hub under LAPSSET.
