North Eastern Regional Commissioner Visits Mandera to Address Security Challenges
The North Eastern Regional Commissioner, John Otieno, has concluded a high-level working tour of Mandera County, focusing on addressing the persistent security challenges that have plagued the border region. The visit involved a series of critical meetings with the County Security and Intelligence Committee (CSIC), local leaders, and community elders to assess the security situation and strategize on a cohesive response. The tour underscores the national government’s heightened focus on stabilizing the area.
A central theme of the discussions was the enhancement of the multi-agency approach to security. The Commissioner emphasized the need for seamless coordination between the National Police Service, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and other agencies to effectively combat threats from Al-Shabaab militants and cross-border crime. He directed security teams to intensify patrols along the Kenya-Somalia border and to increase the tempo of operations aimed at dismantling terrorist cells within the county.
The Commissioner also stressed the indispensable role of the public in maintaining security, urging residents to cooperate fully with security agencies by sharing timely information on suspicious activities. He assured the community of the government’s commitment to their safety and promised continued logistical support to the security teams on the ground. The visit is expected to reinvigorate the security apparatus in Mandera, with a renewed push for collaboration between the state and the community to defeat the forces of instability.
