Kenyan activist Kasmuel McOure has officially announced his intention to run for a political seat in the 2027 General Election, signaling a shift from activism to formal politics. Speaking to KISS FM, McOure emphasized his desire to offer a new kind of leadership, citing frustration with past leaders whom he described as ineffective. I said in 2022 that I would be active in politics in 2027 because we’ve been electing a bunch of clowns. I am not so sure about joining any political party, but I am trying to see how that looks. So yes, I’ll be on the ballot in 2027, McOure stated, leaving open whether he will seek a legislative or executive position at either the county or national level.
McOure’s political ambitions come on the heels of heightened personal security concerns. In July 2024, he reportedly rushed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Nairobi after allegedly receiving credible threats to his life. After being denied overnight stay at the DCI, McOure and his companions were redirected to the Muthaiga Police Station and later allowed to stay at Central Police Station for safety. The activist detailed his experience on social media, assuring followers that he kept his friends and family informed of his movements to ensure their peace of mind.
His decision to transition into politics follows his active role in anti-government protests, including campaigns against the Finance Bill 2024, where he mobilized public dissent over policy decisions he deemed harmful to ordinary Kenyans.
