ODM Youth Leader Names Possible 2027 Presidential Contenders Within Party

In a recent address in Nairobi on October 25, 2025, youth leader Kasmuel McOure declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) possesses several leaders capable of running for the presidency in the 2027 general election. He dismissed the notion that only the late Raila Odinga could be the party’s credible option, saying that figures such as Edwin Sifuna, Gladys Wanga, Ali Joho or Junet Mohammed are ready to step up if chosen by the party.
McOure emphasised that Raila left the party with a functioning structure and a strong leadership bench that spans across regions—from the Maasai community to the coast. He hailed the organisational depth within ODM as an asset, saying the party is in good hands. He also publicly backed Oburu Oginga to lead the party, citing his deep familiarity with Raila’s politics and his readiness to assume greater responsibility.
The statement comes amid growing speculation about ODM’s readiness for the 2027 race, especially after the death of Raila Odinga and internal debates around leadership and alliances. While McOure’s remarks suggest optimism within the party’s youth wing, others remain cautious. Some party MPs argue that no one in ODM currently has the capacity to challenge the incumbent effectively.
