Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has confirmed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) remains committed to the broad-based government alliance with William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), even after the death of party leader Raila Odinga on 15 October 2025. He declared that the ODM, the Luo community and the broad-based government formation shall continue together beyond 2027.
Kaluma described the broad-based government as one created for equity, inclusivity and national unity and reaffirmed ODM’s distinct identity despite the partnership. He warned internal critics — including Martha Karua and George Natembeya — against interfering in ODM affairs, stressing the need to honour Odinga’s political will and that the alliance with UDA is part of that legacy.
Looking ahead, Kaluma’s remarks signal the commitment of the ODM-UDA bloc to maintain its collaboration into the pre-2027 election phase. The durability of this alliance will be tested by internal party cohesion, leadership transitions within ODM following Odinga’s death, and whether the broad-based government model can withstand electoral pressures and shifting loyalties
