Former Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ has expressed disappointment over the resignation of former deputy governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga, warning that unresolved internal conflicts may trouble the county’s leadership.
After Governor Gladys Wanga accepted Magwanga’s resignation, Kajwang stated that the breakdown of their partnership was especially distressing considering the efforts made to form the joint ticket before the 2022 elections.
Kajwang recalled that the Wanga–Magwanga ticket was deliberately constructed by the late Raila Odinga as a unity measure bringing together political opponents, and that he personally played a crucial role in reconciling the two leaders during the campaign.
As someone who helped bring them together, and representing many who believed in the pair, Kajwang called this separation disappointing, suggesting that reconciliation should have been explored before the partnership completely failed.
While acknowledging Magwanga’s service to Homa Bay residents, the senator advised Governor Wanga to consider the issues that led to the resignation, cautioning that similar problems could affect whoever takes the deputy governor position next.
If genuine concerns are ignored, the same fate could await the next deputy governor,” he warned.
Kajwang’s comments come as political tensions rise following Magwanga’s departure, which, according to reports from Kisii Press Club, resulted from an extended standoff within the county executive.
Magwanga claimed he was barred from his office, had his official vehicles removed, and lacked operational support, stating these conditions prevented him from performing his constitutional duties.
Despite the ongoing dispute, Kajwang noted that Homa Bay leaders had intentionally preserved peace to enable the county government to concentrate on development, emphasizing that stability was vital for progress.
Peace is a conscious effort to prevent conflict,” he said, encouraging leaders to use the current positive atmosphere to create an efficient administration focused on the people’s needs.”
The senator stressed that leadership disputes should never compromise service delivery, insisting that residents’ interests must take precedence over political rivalries as the county manages the transition following the deputy governor’s departure.
