Kajiado County Launches Maasai Warrior Games to Preserve Culture & Fitness

by KenyaPolls

Kajiado County hosted the first Maasai Warrior Games on December 7, 2024—reviving traditional tests of strength, agility, and endurance: *Enkipiro* (spear throwing), *Enkipuka* (high jump over cattle), and *Olpul* (long-distance running in sandals). Over 150 warriors from Kenya and Tanzania competed, with 21-year-old Lemaron Ole Nkaiseri winning the overall title. Elders judged authenticity, while sports scientists recorded biomechanics data. These aren’t relics—they’re elite training methods, said cultural advisor Naserian Tungo. The county integrated the games into school sports days and launched a documentary series. UNESCO is reviewing it for intangible heritage status.
