Narok County Sees Improved Security Amid Ongoing Challenges

Narok, Kenya – Narok County has experienced significant improvements in security, thanks to strong collaboration between security agencies, county leaders, and community members, according to CS Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen.

Speaking during the Jukwaa La Usalama town hall meeting, Murkomen noted that while previous security challenges have been calmed, land disputes remain a key source of tension. He urged politicians to avoid incitement and called on residents in possession of illegal arms to surrender them ahead of upcoming security operations.

Murkomen also highlighted efforts to curb the smuggling of contraband goods, including adulterated alcohol and cannabis, through a coordinated multi-agency approach. Chiefs and police officers have been directed to take firm action against gender-based violence, child defilement, underage marriage, and elders promoting FGM.

Mining-related security concerns in Narok South and Transmara are being addressed by the Ministry of Mining, which is weeding out fake licenses that have fueled conflicts. Additionally, human-wildlife conflicts are being mitigated through public sensitization and the protection of wildlife corridors.

The town hall was attended by key county leaders including Governor Patrick Ntutu, Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech, MPs Agnes Pareiyo, Gabriel Tong’oyo, Julius Sunkuli, and David ole Sankok, alongside senior government and security officials.

Murkomen concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to boosting morale for police officers and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) to ensure effective service delivery to the public.
