Interior CS Murkomen Announces Crackdown Targeting Boda Boda Gangs in Vihiga County
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a major security crackdown targeting criminal gangs operating within the boda boda sector in Vihiga County. The CS declared that the government will not allow criminals to use motorcycle transport as a cover for robberies, assaults, and other violent crimes. The operation aims to identify, profile, and flush out all individuals using boda boda services to perpetrate insecurity.
The crackdown will involve close collaboration between the National Police Service and boda boda associations to vet all riders and ensure only those with a clean record are allowed to operate. CS Murkomen directed security agencies to conduct ruthless and sustained operations against these gangs, promising that the perpetrators would be pursued, apprehended, and prosecuted. He also warned that motorcycle owners who rent their bikes to criminals will be held equally liable.
The announcement follows increasing reports of gangs using motorcycles to snatch valuables from pedestrians and to stage quick, violent attacks before making a swift getaway.
