Interior CS Assures Robust Security at the Busia Border
The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, has assured the nation of robust and multi-layered security at the Busia border point, one of East Africa’s busiest entry ports. The CS, speaking after an inspection tour of border security facilities, stated that the government has deployed adequate personnel and technology to safeguard the frontier against cross-border crime, including the smuggling of contraband goods, small arms, and illicit drugs.

The CS emphasized that the government’s commitment extends beyond traditional policing to include advanced technological surveillance and enhanced intelligence gathering. He highlighted that the ongoing modernization and integration of border management systems are designed to facilitate legitimate trade and travel while making it increasingly difficult for criminal networks to operate. This, he noted, is crucial for both national security and regional economic stability.

Prof. Kindiki’s visit and assurances come amid ongoing regional security concerns and the government’s broader strategy to secure all of Kenya’s international borders. He called for continued cooperation from the public, urging residents and traders to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The government’s firm stance is aimed at ensuring that the Busia border remains a gateway for legal commerce and not a conduit for activities that threaten the country’s safety and economic health.
